It's hard to beat the humble chippy. Whether you've had a hard day at work, lost a football match, or got home from a long walk, there is something wonderfully comforting about chunks of fried potato.
Pair them with some lightly-battered cod and you're onto a winner. The fish supper is a British institution, which makes it vital for you to know where the best chippies are.
Thankfully, Bath has more than its fair share of delicious restaurants and whatever you're looking for you'll find in this city. That includes scrumptious fish and chips, of course, so we've listed the best-rated establishments below.

The Scallop Shell on Monmouth Place is perhaps Bath's most highly-regarded fish restaurant. As well as serving your traditional cod and chips, this popular venue offers mussels, oysters, prawns - and even chicken.
Marco Pierre White himself called it his "favourite restaurant" in Somerset and Wiltshire, so it must be doing something right. As if that wasn't enough, it has been given a Traveller's Choice Award on TripAdvisor, along with a host of glowing reviews.
One recent diner said: "Amazing meal at The Scallop Shell. Beautiful decor and vibe, stunning food and great service. Picked the option at the last minute and am so glad we did. Highly recommend."

Overall, The Scallop Shell scores 4.5 out of five on TripAdvisor and is ranked in the top tenth of restaurants in Bath. What's not to love?
If you're more of a grab-and-go kind of family, then perhaps the Golden Plaice will be your chippy of choice. Located on Cleveland Place, it has been dubbed the "best chippy in Bath" by recent customers.
You will find all your traditional chip-shop fodder, as well as a kids' menu and sweet potato fries for anyone hoping to try something new. It has been ranked 10th out of nearly 300 seafood restaurants in Bath on Restaurant Guru.

"You really should give them a try! You will not be disappointed. Added bonus, they are a really friendly couple. Absolute delight to visit. Put the pans away and treat yourself too.
Of course, if you'd rather not leave the house at all, you can get your fish supper delivered straight to your door - thanks to Sea Pearl. Also based on Cleveland Place, this eatery scores four out of five on Just Eat and allows collections too.
This could be a good option if you have friends who don't fancy fish, as Sea Pearl offers a range of beef and halloumi burgers too. It also has desserts.
A recent diner wrote: "Really excellent cod & chips plus tartare sauce and mushy peas and a sausage. We were starving and it really hit the spot."
Another said: "Good arrived quickly and the quality was so good! Best fish and chips in bath so far! Had cod, chips, mushy peas and battered sausage and all was great. Especially like the salt and vinegar on the side as me and my partner like different amounts."
If you're keen to avoid Bath city centre at all costs, then perhaps The Oyster Shell on Moorland Road will tickle your fancy. It is frequently called "the best chip shop in Bath" in Google reviews and is an extension of The Scallop Shell mentioned earlier.
Out of a possible five stars, it scores four on Google and has been named among the UK's best 50 fish and chip shops - making it perhaps even more famous than its city-centre brother.
A recent visitor said: "Great fish & chips. I live in London so my expectations for food is high! The bread was INCREDIBLE. The service was so kind and amazing. They let us bring in our new puppy, provided water for him. Super accommodating. Kelly at the front desk was great. Definitely would go back again when I return to Bath!
