Family make desperate appeal for Glasgow schoolgirl missing for two days

A DAUGHTER has delivered an icy blast at housing chiefs amid claims she’s faced a 15-year wait to fit her family home with new windows.

Elizabeth Goudie says she’s lost patience with Glasgow Housing Association over alleged promises to upgrade her flat on the city’s Pollok.

The 34-year-old says the two-bedroom home in Linthaugh Road is freezing cold in the winter chill with winds rattling through the flimsy window frames.

She took over the tenancy a year ago from her dad George, 80, who moved into a care home.

She said: “Any heating I’m putting in the house is going out the window, pardon the pun.

“I’m not being funny but what about this COP26 thing when they are supposed to be insulating houses and saving energy?

“They’ve told me there is going to be a project next year but it’s affecting my health.

“I’ve been put on tablets for my asthma due to the cold and the damp.”

Elizabeth says her neighbours - some of whom are pensioners - are just as miffed as she is over the window wrangle.

And she claims the home is so chilly in winter she has to wear umpteen layers to keep the cold at bay.

She said: “I’m a 34-year-old woman and I’m suffering so what must it be like for older folk.

“I’m actually having to sit with the heating on in the one room with a hot water bottle, under covers with two house coats on.

“I took over the flat tenancy in April but my dad was a tenant for 32 years before he went into the care home.

“I’ve raised the issue so many times I’ve lost count, to be honest.

“They don’t shut properly, the air vents have got holes in them, there is no insulation and the windows are single glazed.”

A GHA spokeswoman said plans are in place to upgrade the home but insist the only record they have of a complaint was on December 9.

They added: “We have invested over £1.75 billion improving tenants’ homes all across the city to make them warmer, safer and drier.

“We’ll be carrying out further improvements next year, including fitting new energy-efficient triple-glazed windows in this area.

“The customer first got in touch with us with a request for double glazing on 9 December.

“We’ll arrange to visit the property to check the windows, and if a repair is needed we’ll do this as soon as we can.

“We’ll continue to do everything we can to help and support our tenant, including offering an appointment with our expert fuel advice team.”
